Hepatitis C is inflammation of the liver caused by hepatitis C virus. In Asian countries, hepatitis C virus is one cause of liver disease.

Hepatitis C almost have no symptoms (silent disease), a person who suffering from hepatitis C was detected often during routine checkups, or when going to donate blood.

Because Hepatitis C virus found in blood so this virus is transmitted through blood or through equipment which is often contact with blood.

Transmission is often occurs through:

- Needle puncture wounds (often occurs in people who work in the health sector).

- Blood transfusion.

- Drugs abuse that use needle for injection (using the same syringe alternately).

- Acupuncture, piercings and tattoos on the body using a needle that is not sterilized or cleaned as appropriate.

- Use of personal care in turn (e.g. razors, toothbrushes, scissors or nail file) and the means of other households who have been exposed to blood.

Hepatitis C virus is not transmitted through casual contact such as hugging, sneezing, coughing or sitting close to people living with Hepatitis C.

Hepatitis C is rarely transmitted through sexual activity. However, there is a tendency that people who have multiple sexual partners also have a higher risk for hepatitis C virus infection.

The initial phase of liver cancer has no symptoms and this resulted in most patients diagnosed at an advanced stage. Worldwide, liver cancer ranked sixth.

Each year, a total of 626.00 cases of liver cancer are diagnosed and about 410,000 (65%) cases were reported in East Asia, and 346 cases occurred in China.

In China, liver cancer caused about 322,000 casualties every year. Globally, liver cancer is in third position as a disease which caused many casualties.

The prognosis for patients with liver cancer is often delayed because the disease does not show specific symptoms until the cancer progressed to an advanced stage.

According to data from the World Health Organization (WHO), the number of new cases of cancer in the world is expected to soar from 10 million in 2000 to 15 million by 2020. In Asia Pacific, there are nearly 3.5 million cases of cancer in 2002.

Itching due to liver disease can arise from cancer liver metastases. Before we look at liver cancer further, let us recognize the liver organ in our body.

The liver is located behind the lower ribs on the right side of the abdomen or belly. Weighs approximately 1.5 pounds and is the largest organ in the body. Women have smaller liver size compared to men. Liver broadly divided into two lobes or leaves, namely the right lobe measuring approximately six times larger than the left lobe.

The liver is surrounded by a number of vital organs, including stomach, spleen, pancreas, lungs and intestines. Liver function closely related to two other organs:

1. Gall bladder

Situated beneath the liver and stores bile function.
2. Spleen

Portal vein in the liver associated with venous spleen.

When someone is diagnosed with liver cancer metastases, have a sense that the cancer has spread to the liver from other neighboring organs such as lung, breast, colon, pancreas, stomach and lymph nodes.

Usually the itching appears when the pancreatic cancer spreads to the liver. The tumor in pancreatic will block the bile. So that the bile will accumulate in all of our body, especially on the skin. This is what causes itching on the skin.
