Liver Cancer Treatments

Hepatitis C is inflammation of the liver caused by hepatitis C virus. In Asian countries, hepatitis C virus is one cause of liver disease.

Hepatitis C almost have no symptoms (silent disease), a person who suffering from hepatitis C was detected often during routine checkups, or when going to donate blood.

Because Hepatitis C virus found in blood so this virus is transmitted through blood or through equipment which is often contact with blood.

Transmission is often occurs through:

- Needle puncture wounds (often occurs in people who work in the health sector).

- Blood transfusion.

- Drugs abuse that use needle for injection (using the same syringe alternately).

- Acupuncture, piercings and tattoos on the body using a needle that is not sterilized or cleaned as appropriate.

- Use of personal care in turn (e.g. razors, toothbrushes, scissors or nail file) and the means of other households who have been exposed to blood.

Hepatitis C virus is not transmitted through casual contact such as hugging, sneezing, coughing or sitting close to people living with Hepatitis C.

Hepatitis C is rarely transmitted through sexual activity. However, there is a tendency that people who have multiple sexual partners also have a higher risk for hepatitis C virus infection.

Hepatitis C can be cured with appropriate treatment. Hepatitis C is usually treated with interferon alone or in combination of interferon with ribavirin.

Interferon is a protein that is in the human body. In fact, the human body produces interferon basically and interferon production will be more and more when the body tries to fight against the virus.

Pegylated interferon alfa-2a is the latest medication available today and most effective way to fight the virus hepatitis C.

Treatment can help patients with hepatitis C to reduce the level of virus in their blood, until finally the virus is not detectable anymore.

Research shows that people with hepatitis C who were younger and those who haven’t suffered severe liver damage will respond to treatment well. If this disease detected rapidly and treated will have a greater chance for recovery.

Use of interferon alpha may cause some side effects. But just like any other therapy, this effect is different for each person.

The good news is you can deal with it because the side effects that usually happen just like influenza, fever, chills, muscle pain, weakness and diarrhea, nausea and sometimes hair loss. These symptoms will recover by themselves if the treatment is stopped.

If this disease untreated it will be fatal because it can lead to cirrhosis or hardening of the liver, liver cancer and ends with bad.
