Liver Cancer Prognosis

It is difficult to detect tumor growth time, usually the tumor immediately known already at the final stage or advanced stage. This also occurs in patients with liver cancer. That is why people with liver cancer in general can not survive long. Liver cancer treatment and also gives only a little influences to cure.
Most patients die within three to six months after being diagnosed if not treated or if no action is taken immediately curative.
Patients can survive one or two years after surgery if detected early and if the tumor is still very small size. The percentage of survival or to survive during 5 years after surgery was 10% – 30%.
• For a very small tumor size at diagnosis, surgery is a treatment option that could increase the likelihood of healing.
• Unfortunately, patients with small tumors when diagnosed, is rarely encountered. Approximately 80% of patients with hepatoma is also suffering from liver cirrhosis or hardening of the liver. For the same cases, the percentage over the five-year survival is low.
• Surgery is not possible in patients suffering from advanced cirrhosis. If a similar desperate patients undergoing surgery, the medical prognosis or prediction for patient survival is low.
• The percentage of survival for five years only about 1% in patients with tumors in the liver that can not be appointed as a whole through the surgery.
Limited treatment options for patients with large tumors in the liver or in cases of advanced stage where the cancer has spread beyond the liver. In same cases, all medical treatment is given only palliative or relieve the symptoms that appear and none of the cure. This is due to:
• Liver cancer unresponsive to chemotherapy.
• Procedure kemoembolisasi treatment or other similar medications are not proven to cure.
In short, the prognosis after treatment for hepatoma much depends on the size of tumors which progressively enlarged after damaged by cirrhosis and presentations from the patients themselves, i.e., if the condition indicated optimal for surgery or other treatment policies.
